Adoption Process

Our adoption fee is $100 for our single buns, many of our bonded pairs have waived adoption fees.

We require all rabbits to be housed indoors with a minimum living space of 4’x4’.

All of our rabbits are vet checked, treated for fleas/mites, vaccinated against RHDV2 as well as spayed and neutered before adoption.

Our adoption fee goes toward the cost of spay and neuter (which costs about $200-250 per rabbit). Spaying and neutering is important as it helps prevent the continual overpopulation of rabbits, decreases reproductive cancer, and helps with temperament and litter box training. All of our rabbits are also vaccinated against RHDV2 which is a two series shot ($45 per shot $90 total). The total cost to house and get our rabbits ready for adoption is approximately $300-350!

Our adoption process consists of filling out an adoption application, meeting with an adoption coordinator for a quick chat, sending us a picture of your set up, and scheduling a time to meet our available rabbits. To ensure that all of our rabbits get adopted into loving homes, we adopt to approved indoor homes only.

Frequently Asked Questions:

If I only adopt one rabbit will they get lonely?

It depends on how much time you have to spend with your rabbit. If you have 3-4 hours a day to spend with your rabbit, they won’t get lonely. If you live a busy life and are unable to give them attention, yes, they will get lonely and you should consider adopting a mate! Male and female bonded pairs work the best. Overall, your attention is not the same as another rabbit and most rabbits do better with another rabbit friend.

What if the rabbit I adopt doesn’t work out?

We make sure to do a thorough adoption process to make sure every rabbit adopted will be a perfect fit for their new home! However, we know sometimes things do not always work out. Every adoptee must sign an adoption contract that states that, if — for whatever reason — the adoption does not work out, the adoptee must return the rabbit to Jade Rabbit Small Animal Rescue with a two week notification. We want all of our rescued rabbits to find the forever homes they deserve so we strive to prevent this from happening, but, if it does, we welcome them back with open arms.

If you are unsure that a rabbit is the right fit for you and your home, consider fostering a rabbit first! You can even do our foster-to-adopt program to see if the rabbit you want to adopt is the perfect fit!

Why should I adopt a rabbit when I can just buy one from a breeder or from Craigslist?

Although it may seem easier to get a rabbit from a breeder or Craigslist, in reality you have no idea what you are getting and it is unfortunately contributing to the overpopulation of rabbits by supporting rabbit breeders. Rabbits are the 3rd most abandoned animal. Rabbits can get many different diseases and problems that stem from improper care and breeding that are often seen from backyard breeders. When adopting through Jade Rabbit Small Animal Rescue, we make sure to vet check and spay/neuter all of our rabbits — ultimately, saving you hundreds of dollars. We also work with adopters to make sure you know exactly how to care for your new furry friend and provide life long support for rabbit care.

If you are interested in adopting a certain breed or type of rabbit let us know. We or one of our other local rescues may have exactly what you are looking for, and if not, we will keep our eye out for you! There are hundreds of rabbits that are abandoned in parks/fields or are neglected everyday that are in need rescuing.
